General requirements for visa application: One completed visa application form with supporting documents, one recent passport-size photo and your passport with at least 6 months remaining validity and at least two blank visa pages.

Specific requirements:

For type "L" ( tourist) visa, you are required to provide with your travel itinerary or flight booking.

For type "L" (family visit) visa, you are required to provide with your family member's name, address and telephone number, proof of relationships, and flight booking.

For type "F" (business, academic visit) visa, please present us the formal Visa Notice  from authorized department of China, or an invitation letter from your Chinese host and flight booking.

For type "Z' (work) visa, besides the formal Visa Notice from authorized department of China, you are also requested to submit your "Alien employment license" issued by China Ministry of Labor and Social Security, or, "Foreign Expert Certificate" issued by China State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.

For type "X" (study) visa, the "Visa Application for Study inChina"form (also called JW202 or JW201) is a must.

For other types of visa, please make inquiries at the front counter.

Visa application form can be downloaded from internet and can be completed in English or in Chinese. Overseas-Chinese are reminded to give their Chinese name.

IMPORTANT:It is the Consulate who has the final say on what type of visa you can obtain and how many days you can stay in China for each trip.

About mail:

 The Chinese visa application lodged  by mail should be encolsed by the following materials before sending to Consulate:

(1) Passport with at least two blank visa pages, and at least 6 months remaining validity .

(2) Completed Visa Application Form with one photograph attached. Mobile phone number is preferred for the consulate to contact you in case questions arise. If you were born in China, please provide your Chinese name in CHINESE CHARACTERS in the required space.

(3) Relevant supporting documents (Please find details in above of this page).

(4) A pre-paid, self-addressed return envelope.

(5) Visa fee. Please find details here. 

(6) Handling fee: $10.00 per package .

(7) To enclose no more than 4 passports per satchel.

Please note:

Only CASH, BANK CHEQUE, COMPANY CHEQUE or MONEY ORDER is acceptable. And the "payee" should be CONSULATE GENERAL OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA IN MELBOURNE.
